Immanuel Volunteers organizes one-day volunteer projects for small Birmingham charities, churches, and schools. You sign up for a single Saturday, and we handle the plan, the tools, and the supervision. No experience is needed, and nothing is asked of you beyond the one day.
See the next workday Invite someoneThe next one is Saturday, October 10, a group build with Habitat for Humanity Greater Birmingham. Construction runs 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM with a break at 11:30, and Habitat provides the tools, the materials, and bottled water. The site will be in Roebuck or Pleasant Grove, and Habitat confirms which one in late September. The crew is capped at 10.
The form asks how many people you are bringing, and that number matters more than it looks. A workday is scoped to the headcount we expect, so a group of three is planned for differently than three separate signups. We text the address to everyone who signs up as soon as Habitat sets it. You can also text HABITAT and your name to (205) 538-1061, which a person reads and answers.
You arrive on a Saturday morning at a house or a job site in Birmingham, sign a one-page waiver, and get a job from the team leader. For the next several hours you carry material, hold things in place, drive screws, paint, or sweep, depending on the project and on what you are comfortable doing. Someone with experience runs the saw, and someone keeps water moving around the site.
The day ends in the early afternoon. Nobody preaches at you, nobody asks you for money, and signing up for one workday does not sign you up for anything else.
Most people who show up came because someone they know asked them to. If you are willing to ask one person, the invite page has messages written for a text, a group chat, an announcement, and an email to a team. Copy one and send it.

Immanuel means God with us. Showing up on a Saturday and working beside your neighbors is the plainest way we know to do that. Volunteers of every background and belief are welcome, and the only requirement is a pair of hands.
